Our Christmas Scary Ghost Story

As many of you know, we did not make it to Midland for Christmas Eve. We left around 1:30pm on the 24th as the snow lightly fell to the ground and melted. As we got on the road it began to snow harder and we found ourselves in a blizzard.

The roads froze and cars were sliding off the highway left and right. The interstate was not any better. Some 18-wheelers wrecked and blocked all of I-20 which caused the road to completely shut down. Our gas light was on. We had driven about 40 miles and were 2.5 hours into our trip. We made it to the access road, did a u-turn to get gas. Since the roads were so slick we decided to turn around and get a hotel room in Weatherford at the Hampton Inn. As we crept slowly to our hotel we hit an ice patch and did a 180 - almost hit a median (within 2 feet) and an 18-wheeler was about 100 ft behind us - it could have been bad! We all sat in silence for a moment and Carter said "That was a scary story! Was that a scary ghost story, Mama?"

So, that was our scary ghost story. We made it the Hampton, had dinner at On The Border (thank goodness it was open) and Santa did know where to find Carter Christmas morning.

Holiday Activities

This weekend was fun - we went with Nancy and Mike (aka Nana and Pops) to the Gaylord Texan to see the ice sculptures. We never made it to the sculptures b/c Carter had way too much fun looking at everything else.

Astronaut

Carter has told me over ten times that he wants to be an astronaut. Tonight he told me he wanted to see the stars. It was such a clear night the sky was full of them so I took him outside before he went to bed to see them and he said "Oh, I want to fly Mama. I want to fly to the stars in a spaceship. Do you have a spaceship, Mama?" It was precious. In response I told him I did not have a spaceship but he could be an astronaut when he was grown up. He said when he he big he will get a spaceship and take Daddy to space with him. It was a sweet, magical moment!

The Holidays!

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is this week! We admittedly have already decorated the house and put the decorations on the tree. Carter was very into unwrapping all the ornaments from their packaging as though they were little gifts and then wanted to play with them - cheap balls and Waterford ornaments alike. We had fun nonetheless and finished the evening off with Carter sitting on Daddy's shoulders to put the Santa on the Top. Stay tuned for part 2 - decorations outside!
